GRADE 2

On Monday, 8th May, Grade 2 went to Shepparton Heritage Centre. We saw pictures of Shepparton in the past. All the pictures were black & white. We learnt that in the past people had carts instead of cars and there were dirt roads. We also saw machines from the past like cash registers, washing machines, bicycles and some toys. It was a fun and amazing experience.

When we went to the Shepparton Museum, we learnt that somethings in Shepparton have changed over time, for example, they knocked down the old Post Office building and built a new one and there used to be a big swimming pool in place of Aquamoves.

We had an incursion on Monday, 22nd May in which we learnt about First-aid. We learnt that when you have a bloody nose, you hold your nose gently and put your head down. We also learnt that in case of a burn you should pour cold water on it and for a cut you hold it tight with some sort of band aid on it and hold it up so that the bleeding stops. Finally, in case of EMERGENCY call 000.

In Literacy, we have been learning about how to write an ‘Exposition’. Exposition means ‘an argument’. We had a discussion in the class about the given topics and have come up with arguments ‘For’ and ‘Against’ in each of these topics. So far we have written ‘Expositions’ on the following topics:

Should children make their own bed?

Should students wear uniform to school?

Should we have healthy food in the canteen?

– Feyza Engin

In Maths, we learnt about fractions. We learnt about half, quarter, one-third and a whole and made ‘Fraction Sundaes’. We are also learning about ‘Mass’. It means how much something weighs. We used a pan balance to weigh some things from our class. Some of the informal units we used were pop-sticks, pencils and unifix blocks.
